Marking of capacitors

The nominal capacitance of foreign capacitors is often encoded in three or   four digits, the last of which indicates the number of zeros in the capacity value in picofarads.   For example, the code 391 means 390 pF; 132 - 1300 pF (1.3 nF); 223 - 22000 pF (22nF);    1623 - 162000 pF (162 nF); 154 - 150,000 pF (0.15 uF); 105 - 1,000,000 pF (1 uF).   The rated capacitance of capacitors up to 99 pF is indicated by two underlined numbers, for example:   the inscription on the capacitor 33 indicates a capacitance of 33 pF. Capacitor capacitance from   0.001 μF to 0.9 μF are sometimes denoted by decimal without the first zero. For example, code .001   denotes 0.001 μF; .02 - 0.02 uF. Abroad as a decimal separator   not a comma, but a period is applied.

The color coding is used to mark the nominal capacity,    permissible deviations of the capacitance, rated voltage up to 63 V (table. 2.7.) and the TCC (Temperature Coefficient of Capacitance) group (table. 2.4).    The marking is applied in the form of colored dots or stripes.

USSR capacitors marking

The marking of USSR-made capacitors can be either alphanumeric,    containing an abbreviation for the above parameters, or color.
Large capacitors are marked in the following order:    type, rated capacitance, multiplier, deviation, rated operating voltage.

Note: The old designation for capacity and Tolerance, used until 1980, is shown in brackets.

The capacitor labeling system is the same as the resistors.    Tolerance's coded designation is the same, but with some additions.    The values of the alphanumeric marking of the nominal capacity and Tolerance are summarized in the table.    For capacitors with a capacity of less than 10 pF, the permissible deviation is set in picofarads:

For capacitors with a non-linear temperature dependence of capacitance,    temperature stability of a capacitor is characterized by a relative change in capacitance    during the transition from normal temperature (20 ± 5 ° С) to the limiting values of the working temperature    (see table).

Capacitors are marked with code in the following order:

If a capacitor is manufactured with only one specific Tolerance value    or rated voltage, this value may not be marked.

Examples of coded labeling of capacitors:
Capacitor Marking 33pKL indicates rated capacity of 33 pF with a tolerance of ± 10% and temperature instability of the group М75 (75х10-6 °С-1). Marking m10SF means 100 µF, -20…+50% tolerance and nominal voltage 20 V.
Capacitance of 150 pF may mark as 150p or n15; 4700 pF - 4n7; 0,15 µF - μ15; 2.2 µF - 2μ2.
